1. The Hierarchy of Operational Intent
Developed by Richard Lynch and Kelvin Cross, the Performance Pyramid links a company’s high-level corporate vision directly to day-to-day department metrics. This framework bridges the gap between top management strategy and front-line execution.

2. Structural Levels of the Pyramid
The pyramid maps goals across four business tiers, flowing downward from strategy to operations:

3. Day-to-Day Operational Metrics
At the bottom of the pyramid (Level 4), metrics are non-financial, highly specific, and monitored daily or hourly:
  • Quality: Defect tracking, rework rates, material scrap weights.
  • Delivery: On-time delivery percentages, loading dock turn times.
  • Cycle Time: The absolute speed at which a machine processes a customer order.
  • Waste Cost: The direct cost of idle machine time or discarded materials.
