Interviewing a suspect in a corruption case is different from a simple theft case. Corruption suspects are often high-performing employees or senior managers who feel they were “doing what was necessary for the business.”
The “Cognitive Dissonance” Strategy:
  • Informational Phase: Focus on the process of vendor selection. Let them explain the “rules.”
  • The “Trap”: Get them to confirm that any deviation from the rules would be a serious violation.
  • Evidence Reveal: Present the emails or text logs showing they communicated with the vendor outside of official channels.
  • The “Soft” Rationalization: Offer a face-saving excuse: “I know you were under pressure to finish this project on time, and the vendor promised they were the only ones who could deliver.”
