2. Mix and Yield Architecture
  • Material Mix Variance: Measures the financial impact of shifting the proportions of ingredients within the blend. It isolates the cost savings or penalties from substituting cheaper or more expensive components, independent of total volume.
  • Material Yield Variance: Measures the physical efficiency of the chemical transformation or blending process. It compares the total input volume used against the standard input volume allowed for the final output achieved.

Material Mix Variance = Σ (Actual Quantity Used in Actual Mix − Actual Quantity Used in Standard Mix) × Standard Price

Material Yield Variance = (Total Actual Input Volume − Total Standard Input Volume Allowed) × Weighted Average Standard Price
